Mercedes-Benz Design has created a unique concept that was only made once for Design Essentials 2019.
The concept, dubbed Vision Mercedes Simplex, is a retro roadster that was built with a view to remembering the historical heritage and the birth of the German brand.
Vision Mercedes Simplex takes inspiration from the Mercedes 35 PS 1901 which dominated the competition at Race Week in France. Mercedes said that the model was recognized as the first modern car.
Designed to show how Mercedes can set new standards in mobility yesterday, today and tomorrow, Simplex has a rose gold grille frame designed to commemorate a bronze radiator a century ago. However, the center has been replaced with a digital display that shows Mercedes letters as well as animations that provide information about the status of the car.
Another important appearance is the four large wheels wrapped in unique tires featuring the Mercedes star emblem. Chances are, this car is powered by an electric motor, but the company only says that the concept has an alternative drive system.
In another part there is a hood that also looks like an antique vehicle with a leather lock belt and gold buckle. This two-seat vehicle has no windshield and is coated in two-tone paint that echoes classic racing cars.
A similar theme continues into the cabin with a minimalist dashboard and rose gold colored instruments that function to display information. Mercedes calls it hyper analog and says that information is only displayed when needed.
Aside from the high-tech look, this concept also has a clock with a look inspired by the past and a steering wheel with wooden trim. While the seats were covered with Chesterfield quilting with azure blue.
